Social Media

A number of children and parents from school have recently reported inappropriate conversations they have witnessed on social media between children who attend Newsome Juniors. Some parents are unaware of these interactions until we make contact. This concerns us as without careful monitoring of devices children could easily be viewing offensive materials or even be exposed to online grooming.

We urge all parents to stick with the social media age restrictions, no matter how much children plead to be like their friends by downloading similar apps.

Some social media providers allow users to delete comments which makes it very difficult to monitor interactions. Some even track the location of the user’s phone and make this visible to others through a map. The settings can easily be changed by children.

In school we promote responsibility, respect and kindness. We hope parents will help us to encourage this with children both in school and online.
