Friday 20th March 2020
3EM have been great this week, challenging themselves to work to the best of their ability.
Maths has been practical this week, where the children have been creating shapes with the same area and perimeter. Even though no one was able to achieve this, the determination was amazing!
The children also had to create a bridge, using 4 newspapers and 1 roll of sellotape, that could hold the weight of 500g. Jasmine, Jaiden and Tilly passed the test but Tia, Betsy and Vinni surpassed this by creating a bridge that could hold up to 2000g! Wow!
In English, the children created their own set of instructions on a topic of their choice, which I was really impressed with. The children remembered the key features and structure and included persuasive language.
Well done to Sheikhomar for receiving the Pursue Success band and Jenson for receiving the kindness band.
Have a lovely and safe weekend!
Mrs Mitchell
Friday 13th March 2020
The children have had a fantastic week, starting with a Chinese food tasting afternoon and ending with creating a Willow pattern plate design in Art.
Congratulations to Tyren, for achieving his times table band, the fourth Rock star to be added to the Maths Working wall. Who will be added next?
Well done to Abdullah and Burhaan for achieving full marks on the arithmetic test, where they had to halve 3 digit numbers mentally, within 6 seconds!
Most improved writer goes to Jason. Every morning, you have been practising your handwriting and I am so proud of you.
In PE, the children worked on their dance skills and tennis skills. Please keep reminding the children to bring in their PE kits.
In topic, the children have been learning about the Shang Dynasty hierarchy, where they worked in groups creating their own unique version. The attention to detail was amazing and the children took great pride in presentation.
Friday 6th March 2020
3EM have had a fantastic week celebrating Reading. Thank you to parents who were able to visit the Reading Workshop, followed by a taster day in class. Parents also had the opportunity to share a book with their children, which they really enjoyed.
World Book Day was amazing! The children's costumes were fantastic and they had a great time sharing a book with 6HN.
Next week, we will be having a Chinese taster afternoon. The children also have the option of dressing up as Chinese Gods and Goddesses. Please remind children to bring their clothing in a bag to change into after lunch.
Thank you to parents for attending Parents Evening on Wednesday and Thursday. Your children have been working hard and should be proud of the progress and achievements they have made.
In Maths, we have been learning how to convert different units of measure. Once the children remember the facts, they will be able to confidently apply them to reasoning and problem solving:
1 litre = 1000ml
1kg = 1000g
1km = 1000 metres
1 metre = 100cm
1cm = 10mm
Marvellous Mathematicians of the week; Jason, Mohsin, Jasmine, Katie, Abdullah, Yasin, Tyren, Burhaan, Evelyn and Sheikhomar.
Super Spellers of the week; Tia, Neveah, Tyren, Burhaan, Evelyn, Sheikhomar and Parmis.
Have a safe and lovely weekend, see you Monday 9th March.
Mrs Mitchell :)
Friday 28th February 2020
The children have arrived back to school with a focused and hard-working attitude. They have shown perseverance during assessment week and should be proud of themselves.
We were fortunate to have Tim, a Tennis coach, to teach the children some basic Tennis skills. He was particularly impressed with Evelyn, describing her as a natural tennis player.
In Art, the children drew images from the Willow pattern. Next week, the children will be making finishing touches using water colours.
Please do not forget the following dates:
Family Reading Morning on Monday 2nd March, where you will experience a taster of Whole class Guided Reading 10am - 11am.
We have Parents Evening on the 4th and 5th March 3:30pm - 6:30pm.
World Book Day on Thursday 5th March, where your child can come to school in non-uniform or as a character from a book.
Chinese food taster afternoon on Tuesday 10th March. The children can also dress up as Chinese Gods/Goddesses (bring clothing in a carrier bag).
Have a safe and lovely weekend!
Mrs Mitchell :)
3EM have been writing stories involving danger. Well done to Katie, for working really hard on this story.
Danger story
By Katie
“Leah don’t go playing near the river,” said Nana. “It’s dangerous, you could fall in,” she grumbled as she walked away with her walking stick. Did I listen? Oh course I did not. Leah called for Sannah to meet at the park.
The park was beautiful with green, tall grass waving in the breeze. “Hi Leah, “said Sannah. “Let’s play football near the river,” said Leah. The girls started to play football.
Suddenly, Leah kicked the football and it went into the river. Leah jumped int o get the ball but she could not get it because the tide was pushing too fast. Leah was coming up to a rock, she grabbed onto the rock and then Sannah pulled her out.
Leah walked home scared. When she got home, Nana Lisa was angry. Leah said, “Well I can wash them Nana”. Lisa was more angry and said, “Go to your room”. Leah went to her room slowly and cried. She was grounded and had no phone or tablet.
Fractions Revision
Children have been requesting extra homework, so here you go.
https://www.sheppardsoftware.com/mathgames/menus/fractions.htm
Lots of fun games linked to fractions.
Not all of the activities are for year 3.
We have covered;
Ordering fractions with the same denominator
Adding and subtracting fractions with the same denominator
Finding fractions of shape
Finding fractions of number
Equivalent fractions
Enjoy

The children have continued to work hard this week.
In Maths, we have been learning how to add and subtract fractions with the same denominator. I was particularly impressed with Jasmine's outstanding effort and it was a challenging activity. Many children have been requesting additional homework, so I will add work onto the class page next week, for those who want to do it.
In History, we have been learning all about Shang settlements, listing reasons why they choose to settle by the yellow river.
We are currently in competition with 4KH on TTRS and we are in the lead! On Friday, we could have two more children receiving times table bands, which I am thrilled about.
The children have enjoyed their new topic, Rocks and Soils. Mrs Greenough has been so impressed with our scientists, in particular, Betsy.
I can't believe next week is half term!
Have a safe and lovely weekend and I look forward to teaching you on Monday afternoon.

The children worked exceptionally hard during circuit training, we definitely have some soldiers in this class. Remember outdoor PE is on Monday and indoor PE is on Wednesday.
We had a great Art lesson, where the children drew pictures of bamboo, linked to our China topic.
In English, the children have been taking on the role of Mitch and his friend, who managed to escape danger. They put together some sensible questions to ask, after the incident.
Congratulations to Sheikhomar and Burhaan, the first two children in year 3 to be awarded with glow in the dark, times table bands! I am so proud of you both.

This week the children have been introduced to fractions. We looked at finding fractions of shape and then moved onto fractions of number. The children have been fantastic. We were fortunate to have Mr Pitts (Maths Specialist) visiting our Maths lesson, he was impressed with the learning.
In English, the children have been introduced to a new text about a story involving danger. The actions for text mapping have been amazing and I can't wait until we learn the whole text.
In PE the children have been orienteering. The team working skills were outstanding. The children worked efficiently solving a variety of tasks.
On Wednesday, we were fortunate to have a Panto, in our school hall, "Cinderella". The children laughed, sang songs and danced throughout the performance. Even Mrs Mitchell had a bit of a boogie.
This half term, the children have been focusing on becoming effective self managers by being organised, reflective and proactive. I am impressed with how mature the children have been in developing this skill.
Remember school is closed tomorrow. See you all on Monday 27th January.
Have a safe and lovely weekend!
