Summer activities
Stuck for ideas? Here are some fun activities you could do as a family over Summer.
Monday 22nd June 2020
Good Afternoon year 2,
I hope you all had a lovely weekend!
Each day, an activity will be left on the website for you to complete.
One of our core values is to challenge ourselves.
Your task it to see how many words you can make from the word Challenge. For example, I can make the word hall. To help you make as many words as possible, write each letter onto a piece of paper, so that you can move the letters around, to make new words.
Good luck!
Mrs Mitchell :)
Tuesday 23rd June 2020
Good Morning Year 2,
Don't worry if you didn't see Monday's activity until today.
For those who did, well done for having a go.
Today's activity will link to our core value perseverance, which means trying your best and having a go, even if you find it tricky.
Using any of the calculations +, -, x and ÷ can you make the number 30?
For example
10 + 20 = 30
30 - 20 = 10
5 x 6 = 30
30 ÷ 5 = 6
I have also attached a 100 square and multiplication grid.
Good luck!
Mrs Mitchell
Wednesday 24th June 2020
Good Morning Year 2,
How did you find the calculation work? I bet you did a great job!
Our next activity will be linked to our core value Pursue Success. This means that you continue to work hard until you have accomplished your goal.
Your task is to tell me how many triangles you can see in the picture above.
Good luck!
Thursday 25th June 2020
Good Morning Year 2,
How did you find the triangle puzzle?
Today, you will be creating an acrostic poem about the word Respect. Respect is one of our core values. Respect is a way of treating or thinking about something or someone. You show respect by being polite and kind.
Here is an example to give you ideas.

Friday 26th June 2020
Good Morning Year 2,
Today's task will link to our core value Responsibility. As a new year 3 pupil, you will learn to become responsible for your behaviour and attitude to learning which links to our Characteristics of learning.
On a piece of paper write the word Responsibility in the middle and draw/write examples of how you are responsible. For example:
Tidying my room
Putting my PE kit in my bag
Helping prepare dinner
Reading a story to my younger brother/sister
Well I hope you have enjoyed the daily activities this week. Have a lovely weekend and stay safe.
Mrs Mitchell
Monday 29th June 2020
Good Morning Year 2,
Hope you all had a nice weekend! It was lovely seeing some on you on Friday, collecting your year 3 transition packs.
Today's activity links to another one of our core values, Courage. Courage means having mental or moral strength to venture, persevere, and withstand danger, fear, or difficulty. I have used some tricky words, do you think you could find the meaning of these words in a dictionary?
When I think of the word courage, I think of a lion. Your task is to draw a picture/symbol that means courage to you. It may be a time when you showed courage or you could be artistic and create your own image/design.
Good luck!
Mrs Mitchell
Tuesday 30th June 2020
Good Morning Year 2,
Well done for having a go at using a dictionary. I enjoy learning new words to add to my vocabulary bank.
Our last core value is Kindness. Kindness is the quality of being friendly, generous, and considerate.
Your task is to do something kind for someone. For example making a thank you card, helping out around the house or telling someone how great they are.
Have a lovely day!
Mrs Mitchell
Sending in work
Good afternoon year 2,
Some of you have been working hard completing the daily activities. If you would like to send in any work, please email your work to office@newsomejuniors.co.uk for the attention of either Miss Garside (Rabbits) or Mrs Mitchell (Otters).

Celebration Assembly
Every Wednesday, your teacher will pick two children to receive a core value band. Your parents will also receive a text message to come along and be proud of you. I wonder which band you will have first?
Mrs Mitchell
During assembly, you will hear children and teachers saying the school poem with pride and passion.
Practise reading and learning the school poem.
Our School Poem
We challenge ourselves every day, making the right choices in every way.
We persevere, pursue success, whilst always showing lots of respect.
We take responsibility, with courage and kindness for all to see.
We learn and play and grow together, Newsome Juniors forever!
Wednesday 1st July 2020
Good Morning year 2,
I can't believe it is July already!
Have you heard of TTRS (Times Table Rock Stars)? Well this is a game that all children play to help them to learn their times tables. If you can answer any times table fact and division fact within 6 seconds and on TTRS under 2 seconds, you will be rewarded with a glow in the dark wrist band. Your aim is to achieve this by the end of year 4, however, we have had children achieve this in year 3, 5 and 6.
Your task is to practise learning your 2, 5 and 10 times tables. Remember you can use small objects and draw pictures to help you with your times tables. Tomorrow, I will be setting challenging times tables. I have attached three posters to help you practise.
Good Luck!
Mrs Mitchell
Thursday 2nd July 2020
Good Morning Year 2,
I hope you have enjoyed learning your times tables. If you still need to practise your 2, 5 and 10 times tables then that is ok. If you are ready to move onto the year 3 times tables then practise your 3, 4 and 8 times tables. On Friday, I will leave you some calculations to complete.
Good luck!

Good Morning year 2,
I can't believe how quickly this week has flown!
Every Friday, I will attach a times table booklet for you to complete, in addition to a daily activity.
You can complete a page on each day or more if you prefer.
Today's activity involves you doing a letter hunt.
I want you to find and collect as many items around the house, beginning with the first letter of your name. For example if your name is Sarah, you could collect socks, shoes, scarf, sweets etc.
You will only have 5 minutes to collect the items.
Thank you for completing the daily activities and have a lovely weekend.
