Headteachers awards were given to Kalel, Sophie and Oliver
During our belated World Book Day, each class created a scarecrow of a famous book character. We had hoped to display them outside at the end of the day but unfortunately the weather was not on our side. Can you guess which famous book characters we have created? Answers will be revealed later! Well done to all children (especially for cleaning up all the straw afterwards)!
Tomorrow, all children will be taking part in HSBC Financial Learning workshops which are hosted by facilitators from HSBC. An email has been sent with links and passwords for the Zoom workshops. These will also be posted on Google Classroom streams 15 minutes prior to the start of sessions.
Year 3: 9am The Lost Purse This session looks at the various ‘plastic’ cards that are used to pay for things. Children will meet Mrs Thrifty and Mr Spendalot to explore some wise spending choices.
Year 6: 10.30am World of Work Making the links between work, money and future lifestyle goals. This session explores earnings, deductions and the choices we make around spending and our lifestyle.
Year 4: 1pm European Tour, Join Camilla in her virtual travels on a European tour. Help plan her trip and build on language skills as well as exploring spending money in another currency.
Year 5: 2pm Sporting Chance This session explores how easy it can be to get ‘carried away’ spending money through not considering all the added extras involved in a day out. Children will have the opportunity to plan a day out to see their team play and look at what choices we can make to keep in budget.

We would like to share a poster created at home by Taya in Year 5. Taya's parent has posted it online and it has already gone viral, being shared in 30 schools. Taya has since been approached to work on a range of projects with other local agencies including the hospital and hospice. We are very proud of Taya, raising awareness of disability. Well done Taya!
We have lots of Pudsey Bear fans here at Newsome Junior School! Even some of the adults are sporting Pudsey ears. We have 11 pairs of ears left. Please reserve yours using ParentPay and we'll send them home this afternoon!
Today, all children and staff took part in an assembly to mark Remembrance Day - 75 years since D-Day. During the 2 minute silence Mrs Woodhead played 'The Last Post' and children shared their learning during a virtual assembly.

Over the last few days Class 6HH have been considering why it is important to keep themselves safe online. Today we completed our discussion about the dangers of online grooming. Here is a useful link for parents with advice on how to protect your child.
Please find below, information about the Covid – Acts of Kindness Nominations for the Newsome Ward. The Ward Councillors would like to encourage as many nominations to come forward from across the ward – any age – young to older. The deadline has been extended to the 1st Feb.

Several parents have brought dangerous parking outside school to our attention. Please choose a safe place to stop; do not park, stop or set down between the yellow zig-zag lines. A request for vehicles with enforcement cameras has been made. Let's keep our children safe!

This is Y6`s second week back in school and they have really settled in. The Key workers are also adapting to their new groups and have had lots of fun in the forest.
We hope that we will be able to welcome back all year groups for a morning or afternoon before we finish for the summer holidays when they can meet their new teacher.......watch this space!

I would like to welcome everyone back after the half term on a very wet Monday morning!
It is going to be a busy half term including events such as World Book Day, our reading workshop and Parents` Evening.
It has been great to see the children settle back into their classes and there is lots of learning going on already. We will be practising our Team Worker, Self-Manager and Reflective Learner skills throughout this half term.

It was lovely to meet up with children from each class yesterday to discuss the qualities of a "Self Manager." The children were enthusiastic about practising and developing their skills over the half term, to support them to be Effective Learners. I will meet with them weekly to track their progress and know I will be amazed by the end of the half term by how much they have improved! Good luck everyone
